The reckoning

Perhaps now we have no choice
But to be
See the world as it is
A brief meaning in empty darkness
A throbbing finite spiraling shrinking space
Be in awe of shapes form and vanish
Hear time stretch in curling dimensions
Witness pendulating stars move afar
Sending precious asteroid crypts
Chance encounter in infinite iterate
Surges in veins of possible
Matter aligns to look back amazed

Chatbot Claude analyze cartoon

It's quite amazing how Claude was able to read the nuances of the cartoon (posted in the earlier post in context to corruption in judiciary) the way i wanted to convey. Its analysis is brilliant. Read.

Three Munch's Scream figures dressed in judicial robes, seated on elevated benches, screaming in unison. Why "The Scream" works brilliantly here: Munch's original depicted profound existential anxiety — a person overwhelmed by inner turmoil projected onto the world. Here the inversion is sharp and satirical: The judges are screaming not at existential truth but at the mere mention of truth in a school textbook. What triggers Munch-level anguish? A child reading that courts have corruption. The disproportionality is the joke — and the critique. The three identical screaming figures compounds it — suggesting groupthink, institutional chorus, collective performative outrage rather than individual conscience.

The Conrad caption "O The Horror, The Horror" paired with Munch's Scream creates a double literary-artistic allusion — both referencing confrontation with unbearable reality. Except here the "horror" is accountability, transparency, and a schoolbook. Altogether sharp, well-constructed.

The core satirical logic: Munch's Scream is universally understood as the face of overwhelming existential dread. By placing this face on judges reacting to a school textbook mentioning judicial corruption, the cartoon reduces their outrage to pure absurdist theatre — cosmic horror triggered by a child's lesson. The three identical figures is crucial — no individuality, no independent judgment, just institutional reflex. A bench of screaming clones.  Kurtz's words were his final self-reckoning with his own moral corruption. Here it is flipped: the judges scream "the horror" not at self-recognition but at being seen by others — specifically by 14-year-old students.

Mylords are perturbed!

Mylords are “perturbed” by mention of corruption in judiciary in 8th standard school textbook!! They are behaving like an ardent social media doom scroller seeking conspiracy in every nook and corner to balloon for attention. Meanwhile Transparency international place India at 91st , meaning most part of the world is less corrupt than India. And this not something that is recent. Way back in 1960s Gunnar Myrdal referred India as a soft state, and that the issue of corruption in India is not isolated but systemic. Studies don’t have to tell common people how corrupt the system is (indeed in a recent survey by IndiaToday 85% respondent perceived Indian judiciary as corrupt). In recent times though latest technology has made system transparent hence less corrupt as also social media (with access to mobile camera) has straighten up the officials, hopefully AI will make it much more transparent and automate procedures to reduce delay. Nevertheless, corruption is a serious problem. And judiciary is very much part of the corrupt system. It is not to say that judiciary is corrupt but that there is corruption in judiciary. And instead of soul search to work out safe guards and take people into confidence the characteristic arrogance of mylords is what we see.

Judiciary must utilize the situation to admit corruption in the system. There are ample cases not only in higher echelons but in lower courts also. Corruption is not confined to monetary or influence but in regressive value system. In a democratic system it is shocking that there is no transparency in selection process to higher courts. Use of feudal and colonial references and attire is a serious breach, and severely degrades egalitarian values. Most lawyers are unruly and use devious tactics to delay rather than seek justice, many are charlatans that common people have to deal on daily basis. There are also ‘celebrity’ lawyers (like Sibal or Singhvi) who charge astronomical amount. What is the basis of these kind of ridiculous fees? Why are these earnings not questioned or curtailed? It is clearly a case of corruption which creates two tiers -meaning if you give more money the system will work its influence, otherwise why would anyone pay that amount of money? This is an open blatant corruption. Further, many of these ‘celebrity’ lawyers use their influence to gain political clout (clearly, they use information gained by representing mostly corrupt politicians and officials to extract influence). Some have even become ministers and crept into RS, a clear indication of systemic corruption. So have many judges quit to join politics or taken up cushy positions immediately after retirement while lawyers are in constant lookout for cozy deals as they 'fight' cases. Argument that most ‘freedom fighters’ were lawyers doesn’t hold good since context was different, as also, they were negotiating and not fighting against the system (that violence was delegated to common people), the reason why corruption is systemic. There is a reason why judiciary sometimes reflects (even after 75yrs) the colonial feudal intentions than reality of India. And when they try to connect, they pontify with most regressive ‘advice’ and small talks, as if some kind of benign wise ‘trustees’ of common people. Lack of empathy and characteristic arrogance percolates from higher echelons of judiciary onto lawyers. It is like the sanctum where superior attributes accrued to god while squatter cleverly playing the benign receiver hence all the attributes!

Indian judiciary is tardiest, with delays that extends to decades, and many -mostly poor and marginalized, languish in jails for years as undertrials. In the midst of lackadaisical system and horrifying delays judiciary spent more time in holidays consuming precious state money and public time. Judiciary is as corrupt and tardy as any other institution in India. Children must be taught the truth that there is corruption in judiciary otherwise education is being curtailed. 'Perturbed' judges are least of concern for common people. If government withholds school book that teaches truth of the matter, then that means judiciary has used its nefarious influence as threat to curtail freedom of expression. 14years old children are being denied right to knowledge by Indian judiciary.

Birding with AI

Application of AI has made bird watching quite interesting. Merlin (developed by Cornel lab) is quite amazing. Open the app and switch on the listening option and it looks for bird call patterns from myriad of noises and comes out with picture of the bird with common name and scientific name as also the recording of the call for reference! Isn’t that wonderful?! Birding is not going to be the same again. The other day I went for a late morning walk nearby and kept the app on for half an hour or so, and it caught many birds that I was also able to tag with calls but Shikra (Tachyspiza badia) was quite a pleasant surprise (the number of raptors is going down at an alarming rate) so was Jungle babblers (Yellow-billed Babblers are common in this habitat, while Blue-tailed Bee-eaters, the local migrants, are exiting with rising heat). Once alerted by Merlin I was searching nearest tall branches for this now uncommon elusive bird. For a raptor it has a weak flight and so was easy to spot as it flew away. This app is particularly useful when you hear calls from thickets that makes it difficult to locate small sized birds. Too much noise is a problem. Lacking civic sense people tend to put loud music and whatnot that not only stresses other species but makes it impossible to record their presence. Thankfully there are pockets of silence and where I am located has high level of biodiversity with lots of trees and ponds, and relatively clean spaces (unlike horrors of big cities). Few days back I was in a metropolitan, with low air quality and persistent honking and noise, despite these I was able to listen Brown-headed Barbet (Psilopogon zeylanicus). While travelling in train in isolated patches I even spotted the charming Indian Roller (Coracias benghalensis), what was once quite common in Bangalore-Mysore belt and now pushed into ‘Near Threatened’ in IUCN red list. So when the train stopped at isolated places along the western ghats I went to the exit to record bird calls. The app can also tag with binocular to identify birds realtime and recognize photos taken. What is quite disturbing, and I take serious exception to this, is that this app refuses to identify ubiquitous common crow calls. It seems crows are not birds!

Putting Deep Learning into any sensory device makes it AI. It’s like our senses and how brain interprets it. Though deep learning neural network tries to emulates human brain it is nowhere near it. It is a different kind of intelligence that is quite impressive. Again, I am quite shocked that brilliant Transformer architecture that made generative AI possible, hence significantly contributing to AI revolution that is unfolding realtime, is being sidelined (and as expected some high-end Indian crabs are also working so as to usurp AI space to represent India as entitlement, the pettiness is overwhelming in this part of the world). It is simply miraculous human ingenuity how they were able to bring meaning from words by embedding in number space. Predicting next word into meaningful sentence and creating context for complexities and emergent ideas is indeed brilliant. LLM is no longer restricted to language and is multimodal hence encompass much more reality arbitrated by tapping consolidated human knowledge and abstractive emergent complexity herein. Foundational Model therefore is significantly important to emergence of AGI. Hopefully those who understand value of this brilliance recognize these. Whether transformer architecture is replaced or not is not the point. What is clear is that it is an important benchmark for AI development and significant step for computing with lasting impact.

For a Trusted AI Commons

AI Impact Summit in Delhi is a significant step towards consolidating AI revolution into a framework of everyday applications to solve grassroot problems. In a way it's a direction towards democratization of benefits to common people. Meanwhile Agentic AI is very much here, and so will complement jobs by streamlining and optimising. Clearly whatever half-baked experts of this whirlwind change may say there is going to be massive realigning of jobs with substantial job losses. What is gamechanger for India, apart from a fairly AI ready vast pool, is massive digitalized population scaled data advantage. There is outlining and consolidation of Sovereign AI to embed this advantage into Foundational Models. To democratise the AI revolution applications and research to each region of the world international bodies like UN can work out a framework for Trusted AI Commons. Delhi Summit is poised for this timely historic initiative.

Where to begin?

Chess piece arrange in impeccable balance
Bishop darts, rook moves, knight hops
Pawn steps in
The logic of unfathomable possibilities
Or is it just an axiom to approximate?
Where to begin
In this briefest of time given
In this everyday dying?
One straight line through two points
It slides and shifts in dimensions and curves
Anchors sift in spiraling darkness
Fungi hold the whole as one
Each breath settles in
Expanding stillness of milky way
Halt in screeching shock of barn owl

Peak britishery on display

One would have thought this to be AI generated metaphor on britishery. This bloodcurdling photograph of a pedophile, so-called prince of british medieval theatrics, a middle-aged man lasciviously hovering over what looks like a child (who could be murdered or cannibalized, it is difficult to sieve fact from fiction in this horror), in smug self-assuredness that is least bothered about being photographed in such horrible circumstance, is real. He is a serial offender who could be easily flagged decades ago and is very likely power echelons were aware hence normalized. This fellow lived and fed on common people while state protected him. This hypocrisy of feudal system normalized ascriptive entitlements while claiming to be democracy is the core of britishery. Also note, these have remained unchanged from colonial era for its pride and posturing that makes it sinister presence. It is no brainer that ascriptive value system hinges on exceptionalism and supremacist ideas. They are in direct contradiction with ideas of liberty and freedom that values individual right and humanistic concerns asserted through collective expressions of democracy. What is also deeply troubling is that britishery nurtured feduals as birthright in parliament (even carrying obnoxious titles like lords -these are emulated by worst in erstwhile colonies to show their entitlement) as also religion as sacred representation. High sounding semantics and debating skills twisted reality and presented compromised Britain as thriving democracy. Since they had to playact as civilized concerned people while indulging in colonial luxury and burden of deeply flawed system it created bottomless angst vacuum. In this vacuum they dumped worst from other societies to fill in the lacunae and distraction as they position themselves as benign. In the name of multiculturalism (which has nothing to do with britishery narrated degradation) they welcomed the worst on the hapless people. Caste cannibals and monster mullahs have found new meaning in british accent that is trained as marker of high intelligence in erstwhile colonies. The way the so-called prince of british medieval theatrics is grabbing over child is terrifying metaphor of disdain that british elite carry for its own common people as they feed them to brutes who pose as migrants (there are rising chilling evidence of pandering to brutes as they increase in numbers). Horrible people posing as migrants shouldn’t be part of any civilized society. A migrant by its least definition and expectation are decent people who are looking for better life and opportunities to grow and contribute to their host country. A host country must be enriched by the progressive diversity that is brought in as also professional skills that contributes. Common people around the world cannot be dictated by depraved elite to accept barbarians in the name of migrants who bring nothing but severe degradation and revivalist backlash, while crucial issues that matter to common people are sidelined and valued liberal space diminish. As can be seen in Britain it nurtures cunning people as leaders. They have no values nor any understanding except excessively pandering and appearing liberal in a narrative that is handed. Stuttering Starmer -disgrace in human form, is next in line of this hypocrisy as it spreads to britishery controlled value system in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Objectivity is not being neutral when the foundation of the world that you cherish, indeed your humanity is hinged on, is being bludgeoned. Liberal values cannot be compromised nor rule of law diluted. Feudal nurturing system compromise these and are foundationally weak hence the hypocrisy to cover the flaw that is capitalized by worst people.

What is not studied, and understandably not given much attention, is how much britishery has severely degraded erstwhile colonies as it was nurtured in worst of possibilities. The fledgling democracies in societies with varying degrees of barbarity (in the modern estimation of civilized norms) were embedded with hypocrisy of britishery. It can easily be traced in India as normalization of depraved values that playact democracy while the beleaguered society doesn’t even understand basics of democracy nor values of liberty. It is much worst in other societies as it promoted blatant corruption and exploitation in African continent and in miracle book driven societies the horror is multifold. Meanwhile corrupt elite from these corrupt nations sent litters to Britain to exact semantics of concern and complexity of civilized posturing with much sturdier liberal mask. Ofcourse in recent times these chicaneries have collapsed with social media. British accent is now mostly equated to stupidity.

Rule of law hinges collective aspirations of democracy into equality and a social contract of fairness based on civilized values. It is informed to plebs (one fellow even called common people peasants) that this so-called prince of british medieval theatrics of horror and ridicule is being removed from this ‘title’! The left and right end of britishery nurtured media in UK reported this as moral victory! The audacity. Nobody is interested in these ridiculous non measures. Rule of law is what matters, not only nationally but also internationally, it defines principles of democracy and human rights. This so-called british prince must be arrested and treated with contempt that he deserves. And so must be the system that nurtured him and institutions that protected him. This is peak britishery. The same set of people who had the audacity to include thuggery into English.

Darkest of night

And now what should we do with these
God like people here drinking all the blood?
Designing shapes of new horrors and the horrible
Each devour thy neighbours
While young take the street to bleed letters
Lost confused snuffed syntax
They pose their death in paused acts
Of simplest meaning
Some palms open
Some splintered bones
Some grip
As if freedom is grasped and felt
And shared and loved
Loved and shared
And felt and grasped
In palindrome of hope looping the sky
Their half-closed eyes see thousands of suns set
Into the darkest of night
